INTRODUCTION

Tanzania Alliance for Disability Development Initiative (TADDI) is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious and Non-Governmental Organization. The organization started as Community Based Organization (CB0) in April 2021 and then due to the rapid growth in its capacity, influence and contribution to live hood of disabled people and community development at large, the organization was registered as a national NGO in July 2022, with registration number OONGO/R/3593.

HOW DID TADDI EMERGE

The organization started at Budushi primary school, whereby 2 teachers Mr Bwenda P. Bibuka and Mr Hamza R. Salumu were influenced by the pathetic life of children with disabilities, most of them were lacking basic educational materials, also the school was lacking special equipment’s, that could make them acquire the adequate skills and knowledge provided by their teachers in classrooms. Also there was high stigma against the children with disabilities.

The two teachers (TADDI Founders) decided to donate their money, so as to buy some special needs to the children with disabilities, such as exercise books, pens, pencils, cloth, balls, toothpaste and food stuff.

More over the two teachers (TADDI Founders) mobilized other teachers and other community members to donate for the educational needs for the children with disabilities. This was done successfully as 500,000T/SH was donated and the needs were bought and given to the children with disabilities in need. 53 children benefited from the initiative.

Furthermore, the two teachers (TADDI Founders) decided to mobilize people with disabilities and other community members so as to start an organization, that could continually empower, protect, unify and most importantly improve the lives of people with disabilities. The initiative was very successful as 4 people joined as founder members. Among the new founder members 3 of them were people with disabilities.

Amazingly! the organization started in April 2021 as a CBO with members’ meetings in a classroom weekly has since grown from strength to strength to owning an office and equipment such as tables, chairs, laptops and printers, then in July 2022 TADDI was registered as a national NGO.

In the quest for its growth, the organization main drivers all along have commitment and passion for people with disabilities’ affairs.
